François Longueteau’s Esperance distillery is the smallest and oldest distillery in Guadeloupe, dated 1890, overlooking the ocean and the island of Marie Galante.

We are in Basseterre, west part of the butterfly island, also called Karukera in ancient Caribbean language.
François Longueteau is the only farmer, master distiller from Guadeloupe.

The Habitation Longueteau is one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean, with its red roof, surrounded by old cocotiers, with under it the small distillery surrounded by the 70 hectares of the Domaine de Marquisat de Sainte-Marie, planted with two varieties of cane: the R579, a soft, juicy, tasty and very fragrant reed, and B 69.566, the now famous canne bleue, with which the Karukera rum is produced.

Karukera is a brand born of friendship and partnership between François Longueteau and Sylvain Guzzo, who decide to create a brandusing just bleue sugar cane and aging partially in fine French oak barrels.

The cane juice is diluted with water from Soufrière spring water, while fermentation takes place without any addition of anti-foaming or acidifying substances, a very rare case in the production of rhum agricole and the distillation takes place in the classic Creole columns.

The aging cellar is divided between casks of white oak and French oak.
