Providence Rum

The production of Providence Rum starts with a rare and special variety of sugarcane called Canne Cristalline. This very old heritage cane is grown by Michel Sajous in St Michel de l’Attalaye in the central north of Haiti. Agriculture is completely organic, without the use of fertilizers, pesticides or chemicals. The harvest takes place between December and August, when the cane is cut by machete and transported to Distillerie Chelo by mule. It is then pressed for juice or boiled for sirop.

Herbert Barbancourt-Linge Jr. manages the daily operations at Distillerie de Port-au-Prince.

His grandmother Jane Barbancourt, the last living member of the original Barbancourt family, married Rudolf Linge, a German expert in perfume who worked in Grasse during World World II. Together, they launched their own brand, Vieux Labbé, which today is owned by their son (Herbert's father) Bertie. The family dream has always been to distill again in order to revive the heritage of their ancestors. This dream is now realized with the creation of Distillerie de Port-au-Prince.
